Sandgate Film Gala
Film buffs and lovers of the magic of the big screen won’t want to miss this year’s Sandgate Film Gala in March.

After the huge success in its inaugural year in 2018, the celebration of film is returning to Sandgate on March 29 and 30.

The historic Sandgate Town Hall will come alive with film, as it hosts a satellite event of the Heart of Gold (HOG) International Short Film Festival, which was screened in Gympie late last year.

Sandgate Cinema Club is hosting this year’s film gala and at the reins is Griffith Film School graduates, Lachlan Smith and Emma Martindale, who are excited at the opportunity.

Lachlan said events like the film gala bring the feelings of yesteryear and the magic of classic cinema back to Sandgate.

“Many people within the community have yearned for a cinema to be built once again, so these kinds of events help build the film community in Sandgate,’’ Lachlan said.

“ These events are highly important in solidifying the legacy of Sandgate’s cinema history.

“The gala helps to bring the community together for a wonderful evening, whilst providing a platform for emerging filmmakers and actors to get their work out onto the big screen.’’

Lachlan and Emma see the Sandgate Film Gala as a great step in their emerging film careers and are working hard to ensure the event is bigger and better than ever.

“It’s a big project arranging a film gala, securing sponsorship and generating public support, however, if there’s anywhere in Brisbane that has the right community spirit to get behind a winning idea, it’s Sandgate,’’ Lachlan said.

This year’s Sandgate Film Gala will include an opening night feature film screening on Friday, March 29. A curated package of films from the Gympie HOG will screen on Saturday, March 30.

To top off the weekend of film, the Cinema Club will be hosting their March film screening on Sunday, March 31.
