You won’t want to miss the Jingle all the Bay Festival on Friday 7 December. This event promises to be bigger and better than ever with a street parade, shopfront lights’ competition, entertainment for the whole family and much more.
The Sandgate & Districts Chamber of Commerce president, Bill Gollan, says the festival, now in its third year, is a great way to kick-start Christmas celebrations in Sandgate.
“Jingle all the Bay Festival is going to be bigger than Santa’s toy bill,’’ Bill says.
This year organisers are hoping to close off the main street, from Rainbow Street all the way to Burnett Place, including the roundabout.
“With more of the street closed off there’s going to be more activity in the street with food and entertainment,’’ says Bill. “This is about the whole bayside community getting involved.’’
The evening will begin at 6pm with more than seventy stalls selling Christmas goodies and food.
“You will be able to get all your Christmas cakes, toys and novelties for the big day. Shop in Sandgate for everything Christmas.’’
A full line up of live entertainment is planned for the corner of Keogh Street, with local musicians, artists and dance groups taking to the stage.
The Street Parade starts at 7pm, featuring local community groups. The theme for this year is ‘lights’, so everyone is encouraged to decorate themselves or their vehicles in twinkling lights.
Have your photo taken with Santa Claus, after the parade and your furry friends can get a photo with Santa too, courtesy of 4 Paws Dog Groomers.
Keep the children entertained with amusement, pony, and train rides; a petting zoo, craft activities and more.
A new initiative for families kicks off on the night: the ‘Spot Santa in Sandgate’ treasure hunt. Santa has delivered some special treats to Sandgate businesses and, if children spot Santa in a shopfront, they can pick up a treat by visiting the store.
The Chamber’s Sandgate Business Lights Competition will also be drawn at the festival. Make sure you vote for your favourite shopfront display on the Jingle all the Bay Facebook page.
“We’re encouraging all local businesses to dress up their shopfronts and enter,’’ Bill says.
“All our local businesses are getting into the spirit of Christmas, so please support them.’’
