It is beginning to sound a lot like Christmas in Sandgate – as we kick off the festive season with Carols beside Einbunpin Lagoon.
Join the community in the heart of Sandgate at this year’s Carols by the Bay on Thursday, 6 December. It’s a free evening of fun for the whole family.
We suggest you bring along a picnic blanket or chair and find a spot on the grass in front of the rotunda where you can listen to the voices of students from Sandgate, Brighton and Nashville state schools. They’ll be supported by the Pine Rivers Brass Band and Multitude Community Choir. The evening is a great chance for local families to gather and hear their children perform, after months of practicing their favourite Christmas carols at school.
The event is hosted by Cr Jared Cassidy, Stirling Hinchliffe MP and Wayne Swan MP. This is the third year they have sponsored this popular event - rescuing it after previous hosts, the Rotary Club of Sandgate, unfortunately folded.
Councillor Cassidy says the Carols are a great way to kick off Christmas in Sandgate, and it will be followed by the Jingle all the Bay Festival the next evening.
“This event has been a great family night out in Sandgate, for decades,” Cr Cassidy says.
“I remember attending carols in Sandgate with my family, growing up and later singing in my school choir. This event hasn’t lost any of its magic. Join us for a very special night.’’
After the students finish singing there will be a special visit from Santa in his sleigh, thanks to the Bracken Ridge Lions Club.
Local primary schools will keep the crowd fed with a barbecue and Sandgate High School will be selling popcorn and lollies.
Bramble Bay Lions will be selling their popular Christmas cakes and there will also be snow cones, coffee and glow products for sale.
The evening kicks off with the barbecue from 5pm. Performances start at 6pm.
In the event of bad weather, carols will be held in the Sandgate Town Hall.
