Roosters In A League Of Their Own
It’s been half a century since that first whistle kicked things off at the Brighton Roosters Junior Rugby League Club, and 50 years later the milestone will be celebrated with a huge weekend of celebrations at the legendary club down on Tenth Avenue.

Back to Brighton - an incredible weekend celebrating the club’s history - will take place from Friday, July 27 to Sunday, July 29, and club vice president Dennis Trenery says the event will be one to remember.

“Every side in every age group will participate in games over the weekend with games on Friday right through until Sunday afternoon, as well as a 50th-anniversary dinner on the Saturday evening,” he says.

“We wanted to give all our players and supporters the opportunity to take part in the celebrations and get to play their game here at our spiritual home, Jim Lawrie Oval.”

Dennis says people from the club’s past and present will converge on the club for the celebration, with the community embracing the huge milestone.

“The feedback has been nothing short of amazing,” he says.

“We have former members travelling from near and far to be a part of the celebrations.

“We have celebrated already this season with the children wearing a commemorative replica jersey from the 1970s as their playing strip.”

And it’s not too late to get involved, he says, with the club still putting the call out to a few former players and volunteers.

“We have been making contact with life members and former committee members and players, staff, coaches and volunteers in the hope that they will be able to attend this dinner and celebrate our 50th year,” he says.

“I am super proud to be able to celebrate this milestone for our community with people that I played both junior and senior football with.

“I’m so happy for the generations of families from the 4017 region and beyond who have played for the famous Red, White and Blue.”

The Back to Brighton Weekend begins on Friday, July 27 to Sunday, July 29, with the dinner on Saturday, July 28, from 5.30pm. Tickets to the event are $40 a person, and a table of 10 is $400. Life Members and their partners are free.
