Sandgate State School's Carnivale presents The Radness Of Robots.
Calling all tech stars — Sandgate State School’s Carnivale is back, and this year the theme puts the focus on the radness of robotics. Creative co-ordinator Simone Eclair says the Carnivale is a fantastic community event where children can share time together with their families and friends.
“It will be hilarious, exciting, vivid and joyous fun,” she says.
“The event includes food trucks, a home bake stall, trash and treasure, rides, a cent auction, raffles, a roving robot rhino performer, sideshow games, a talent show, robotics workshops and live performances from the school music groups and local dance company Footlights.
“An inclusive social event, the Carnivale will showcase the talent and creativity of the school to the community and invite them to play.
“It’s a truly joyous community event, suitable for all ages and a chance to engage with the art and craft stalls, chase thrills on the rides, fill your tummy with the delicious homestyle food or win big at the auction and bargain stalls.”
Each year the school celebrates with a new and fresh theme, with this year being the theme of Robots.
Simone says the robot theme was conceived from the question: “How do we help each other?”
“ Robots are created as helpers by humans, and we wanted to empower the kids to think about helping and how they can embody the caring values of the school by contemplating robots and what they want them to look like and do,” she says.
“It’s also a fantastic theme to encompass both artistic themes and STEM (science technology engineering and maths) themes.
“On the day we are offering a fantastic build-a-robot stall, a beautifully crafted robot jumping jack to decorate and a brilliant robotics workshop run by Brisbane City Council.
“Our Transformation Station will also allow enthusiastic attendees to join in the fun with face paint and hairstyle options.”
As the major fundraising event for the school, visitors can be assured all money spent is headed towards a good cause.
“This year the funds raised will help with air-conditioning for all the classrooms,” Simone says.
“The school has grown every year, and we need to make sure every student receives an equally comfortable education.
“The time has come to upgrade or in many cases install for the first-time air-conditioning units, and this is not an expense covered by the Department of Education.”
