Sandgate's Got Heart Film Gala

Sandgate Guide | Nov 29, 2017
COMING TO SANDGATE MARCH 2018! The Best of Gympie’s Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival …

For ten years running, the Heart of Gold International Film Festival (HOG) has brought some of the world's best short films to Gympie.

Sandgate will now become home to a new event — Sandgate's Got Heart Film Gala; a cinematic experience presenting a selection of HOG’s best short and local films (some of which were screened in Gympie this year), and a Q&A session with filmmakers, to be hosted in Sandgate’s beautiful Town Hall.

Councillor Jared Cassidy is already excited, “The Sandgate Town Hall has been an iconic venue for over 100 years and plays home to art, drama, music and now film for our community. Bringing events like this to the community will also support local businesses, bringing more people to visit our seaside village. It’s a big win for our local area!”

Artistic Director of HOG, Emily Avila says each year hundreds of submissions are received and viewed by
a panel before final selections are made.

“It is the loveliest film festival in Australia…full of carefully-crafted short films from every corner of the world, specially selected for their emotional resonance and power,” Emily says.

Event organisers Catherine Cox and Leanne Palmer hope that this will become a warmly anticipated annual event.

“The HOG in Gympie is such a delightful film festival with so many wonderful short movies. I felt extremely honoured when my short was selected for screening," Catherine says.

" We hope many people from 4017 and the rest of Brisbane will attend the gala and love it.”

So count on there being lots of smiling, laughter, perhaps a soulful tear or two, and a feeling a rekindled joy in humanity during this new event. Feel welcome to stay for a post-session drink and talk about your favourite movies.

Sponsorship will be sought from local businesses to fund initial costs, with the profits from door sales being donated to a local charity.

If you would like your business to be associated with this production, please contact Leanne Palmer on ph. 0431 330 371.

Further details will be advertised early in the new year.
