The spirit of Sandgate will shine throughout the bay this December.

IT’S TIME TO GET MERRY this December as ‘The Sandgate & Districts Chamber of Commerce’ bring us the annual Jingle all the Bay’ festivities to the Sandgate Village. Last year was the first ‘Jingle all the Bay’ and due to its popularity and success, the event will now become an annual occurrence.

“From December onwards, the Sandgate CBD will be a sea of Christmas lights,” says President of The Sandgate & Districts Chamber of Commerce, Bill Golan.

‘The Sandgate & Districts Chamber of Commerce’ will be lighting up the trees on the high street of Sandgate, and business owners are encouraged to decorate their businesses too. “There will be a competition for best dressed shop, judged by the chamber and a people’s choice award too,” says Bill.

The Christmas message this year from the chamber is ‘buy local’. Bill Golan is a firm believer in this message.

“ The Christmas festivities is about celebrating our community and showcasing all the great businesses within it,” says Bill. “Support your local businesses and they will support you.”

The festivities culminate in a street party on Friday, December 15th. Brighton Road will be closed off to traffic from Keogh Street to the roundabout from 6pm to 9:30pm.

There will be a Christmas Parade with Santa arriving by boat. Children are encouraged to dress up as fairies and elves to celebrate this special time of year.

The Christmas Street Party will feature food trucks, live music, and businesses showcasing their wares.

A new initiative this year is a live art competition where the public will get to watch several well-known local artists create a canvas painting over a two-hour period. At the end, the paintings will be auctioned to the public and the artists will receive a percentage of the sale.

Well-respected local artist, Pete Martin says, “This will be a real draw for the public and unveil some of the mystery around how paintings are created.”

Artists will paint a Sandgate scene, which will be selected by random draw. For more information visit
