Councillor Jared Cassidy has launched an online petition calling on the Lord Mayor to reverse funding cuts for local projects.

During the 2016 Brisbane City Council Election, the Lord Mayor made a commitment to spend $2 million on a fountain in the Dowse Lagoon, Sandgate.

“This project was not supported by myself or local residents and community groups in the local area.  Thankfully, commonsense prevailed and the project was withdrawn.  Unfortunately, the Council Administration has redirected the $2 million in funding from the local area and will spend it on CBD projects including intersection upgrades as a result of the Queens Wharf Development.  This is a very bad outcome for the residents of the Deagon Ward.”  Councillor Cassidy said.

“I think this is a great opportunity for Council to work with the community to spend this money on local projects”.

“Some of the initial suggestions I have made include investing in the much needed upgrade of the Brighton Foreshore or addressing the water quality and amenity issues of the Einbunpin Lagoon, but I think this decision should be community driven”.

“I encourage residents to go online and sign the petition"

“There are also paper copies of this petition in my office”.

“The petition closes on 31 March 2017.  Once the petition has been signed a verification email will be sent.  Please ensure you take this final step so your signature is registered.”
