Sunday Markets Expand

Sunday Markets Expand
Sandgate Guide - Feb 28, 2017 19:47
The Sunday morning hustle and bustle that is the Sandgate Makers Market is about to grow, with a callout for more boutique vendors.

The Makers Market, an extension of the Sunday Farmers Market, is held every weekend at the Seymour St precinct, outside Satori Organics Wholefoods Cafe and Juice Bar.

With both markets growing in popularity, Satori Organics cafe manager and Makers Market coordinator Lea Moate is inviting more makers to apply.

“We want to focus on food and beverage,” says Lea.

“So cheeses, preserves, oils and grains; they’re the kinds of things we’re looking for, so that it isn’t just any other Sunday market with clothes and craft.”

Lea says Satori Organics owner and Makers Market founder Lindy Goodall has grown the market with the same vision she had for her cafe.

“We serve vegan and vegetarian, all spray-free and sustainable. We recycle everything. And that’s the kind of vibe we want to spill out onto the footpath on a Sunday morning.

“We’re primarily looking for bespoke food and beverage makers, however those selling hand-crafted goods like bouquets, hand made linens and hand crafted jewellery are also welcome to apply.

“ We’re finding a lot more people are doing little projects on the side, and we want to give these people a platform where they can come and sell their products to the local community.”

Indeed, there is something wholesome about Markets – they are like a window into yesteryear, when local artisans and travelling merchants gathered in a town centre to sell their wares.

Although reformed over centuries to suit our changing tastes and culture, the stalls, gormet produce, fresh herbs and homemade preserves still bestow upon us both countryside serenity and childlike wonder.

Visitors to the Sandgate Farmers and Makers Markets can enjoy a range of homemade food products and Queensland-grown produce.
