ROAD CLOSED FOR FESTIVITIES. Jingle all the Bay festivities will come to a peak with a huge Christmas street party in the heart of Sandgate on Friday, December 16.
Chamber of Commerce president
Bill Gollan says the street party is all about getting together and celebrating the festive season with the community and local businesses.
The evening will run from 6.30pm to 9.30pm and Brighton Road will be closed to traffic from Keogh Street to the roundabout.
“It will be a historical occasion because I cannot recall Brighton Road ever being closed before,’’ Bill says.
Many of the local businesses will remain open for the evening and businesses not based on Brighton Road will have the opportunity to set up a pop up shop in the street.
“You will be able to buy everything you need for Christmas and the festive season,” Bill says.
“We believe the Chamber should be supporting businesses, and businesses supporting families.’’
Food stalls will line the street, talented local artists will perform on stage and there will be a wine and cheese trail.
There will be lots of entertainment for the children, including a jumping castle, hunt the reindeer trail and outdoor boxing ring.
Mr Henderson and il Forno Pizzeria owner Marco Agostini says the street party is the perfect way to show off Sandgate.
“ So in a similar style to a small European village during Christmas time, we shut down the street to cars, light up the village with lights and music, and allow everyone to see what truly makes Sandgate great,’’ Marco says.
“There will be local schools carolling, local musicians busking, elves and fairies fluttering and maybe even a bit of mulled wine.’’
The evening will even cater for your fury friend, with 4 Paws Dog Grooming offering Santa photos.
