Runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome at the inaugural Sandgate Sunset Run on Saturday 11th October.

In a truly unique fun run, teams of between 2 and 4 people will run laps of the Sandgate roundabout for 2 hours, with giant glow sticks used as batons.

It’s the first time the iconic roundabout has been closed to traffic for such a purpose.

To add to the atmosphere, food vendors and market stalls will be set up in the precinct, as well as a Kids’ Zone in Sandgate Town Hall, which will feature entertainment from local band Red Rocket 3, an awesome demonstration from Street Science and hands-on workshops with Circa.

The Sandgate Sunset Run is the brainchild of Brighton local Dean Gibson, who together with his wife Vanessa, founded the weekly Sandgate parkrun in 2012.

“We wanted to create a unique and iconic event that would appeal to all runners and involve the local community,” Mr Gibson said.

“We can’t wait to see families get involved, enjoying our community and the unique connections we have.”

Dean and Vanessa formed a committee of local volunteers, who are all passionate about running and the local community, and have experience in areas like event management, media and communications, law and small business.

The event is a charity fundraiser, supporting local organization SANDBAG, and their work with victims of domestic violence.

“This is such an active and healthy community, and we want to celebrate that, while also supporting a truly worthy cause,” Mr Gibson said.

“We also see it as an opportunity for runners to celebrate their season of running and take part in a fun event with their friends.”

Team members will complete as many laps of the 250-metre track as they can, with unlimited baton changes allowed.

A raffle featuring heaps of prizes donated by local businesses is also being held, with tickets available for purchase on the night or through the website.

There will be something for everyone at the Sandgate Sunset Run, so bring the whole family for this new and exciting community event. The festival will be happening from 5pm-9pm, with the run held from 6pm-8pm.

The Sandgate Sunset Run is proudly supported by local businesses including Sharlow Fitness, Lava Print & Design, Amart Sports, Northside Family Law and Brisbane City Council.

Registrations will be capped, so get your team together now!
