It’s in the Pouch – Local Women Sew for Bushfire Wildlife
When such a huge disaster as the current bushfires strike, it can be hard to know how to help, but some local women have found a way to help injured wildlife including koalas and kangaroos.

The Crafterdark (Craft After Dark) members of Womenspace have been busy sewing pouches to help heal the wildlife hurt in the devastating fires. Kate ,, a volunteer at Womenspace, said she knew many members would jump at the opportunity to help with the sewing.

“We have a connected community at Womenspace . It was a pull to help, when we know others are in trouble, but we don’t know where to start with assistance.”

“On the first night we made 90 pouches in just over two hours. The second night we made over 100 and we aim to make 400 next time, as women are cutting material in preparation” Kate said.

Crafterdark is a monthly craft evening where women connect and socialise over drinks and snacks.

Womenspace is a wonderfully creative space that welcomes women from all walks of life. It encompasses many different activities, including Cuppa & Chat, Crafterdark, Gardening Club, and volunteering.
