Starting on 6 February, the Sandgate Guide’s own cartoonist, Sean Leahy, will run a Sketch & Paint Workshop Series over six consecutive Thursday evenings at the local yacht club.
Sean, who is also an exhibited artist, will be teaching urban sketching and travel journaling in pen, ink and watercolour.
“It’s a wonderful skill to have when relaxing, travelling or anytime life presents you with opportunities and unexpected delays. You can sketch and paint in coffee shops, outdoors... in fact anywhere with a small portable sketching kit,” Sean said.
The classes, limited to 20 students, run for two hours, from 7pm to 9pm, upstairs at the Queensland Cruising Yacht Club in Shorncliffe. “The venue is ideal. It’s self-contained, air-conditioned and has its own restaurant and bar downstairs. You can turn up at 6pm and buy dinner before class.”
“Beginners are absolutely welcome,” Sean says.
“I love seeing anyone discover and develop their skills and creative self-confidence over a number of classes. New pathways in the brain are awakened and it becomes a practise in stress reduction and mindfulness. It is a key component of healthy well-being.Six evening workshops from 6 Feb to 12 March.
