Chamber Chat
Have you ever wondered what a chamber of commerce is and what it does? Are you looking for like-minded people, support and ideas that can help your business? Then the Sandgate & Districts Chamber of Commerce has the answers for you. We’re a not-for-profit incorporated association made up of community-minded business people.

A key focus of the Chamber is to “Empower local business by celebrating the Community”. In support of this we want to share with you news of what we have been up to lately and details of upcoming events and initiatives.

Our August meeting featured guest speaker, Councillor Jared Cassidy, and the discussion of several topics and initiatives relating to the local business community.

Gearing up for Jingle All The Bay

Kimberley Washington provided an update on behalf of the many businesses that are taking part in this year’s Christmas in Sandgate (Jingle All The Bay), which takes place in and around Brighton Road, Sandgate on Friday 6 December. With businesses excitedly planning window displays, pocket activation ideas and entertainment, this year is gearing up to be another successful Chamber event for the local business community.

Businesses Invited to Working Groups

The Chamber has recently launched a new initiative, “Chamber Working Groups” to extend our reach and to embrace business precincts across the catchment, to include Brighton, Deagon, Boondall, Fitzgibbon, Taigum and Bracken Ridge. If you are a business owner or operator and are interested in being a voice/forming a representative group for the businesses in your suburb to encourage growth, collaboration and success, the Chamber would love to hear from you. Your role will be to report back to the Chamber with news, updates, challenges and achievements at General Meetings, so we can work together in supporting and celebrating local businesses. Please email your interest to membership@sandgate.org.au.

Boost for Historical Society

Congratulations to one of the Chamber’s honorary members, Pam Verney from the Sandgate Historical Society & Museum, on the recent grant approval. This lifeline will provide the Museum with the support required to continue to grow and tell the story of our community’s history and heritage.

Events and Important Dates

Join us for the Chamber Social Drinks at Mr Henderson on Wednesday 30 October from 5.30pm. This event is open to non-members who would like to meet other small business owners. The next Chamber General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 27 November from 6.30pm at the Full Moon Hotel.

Q & A With New Member Astute Consulting Services

Welcome to one of our new Chamber members, Kate Witteveen from Astute Consulting Services in Bracken Ridge, who offers coaching and training in careers and leadership. We caught up with Kate for a quick chat.

What do you love about doing business in the bayside?  I see a great sense of optimism in the bayside community, and I love the energy that comes from that optimism. My clients are motivated to find ways to excel in their lives and in their careers, and it is a privilege to accompany them on that journey.

What’s the number one challenge customers come to you with? Customers come to me with a desire to find ways to improve their quality of life and well-being, while succeeding in their careers.

How do you help them solve that particular problem? I help my clients to identify what is most important to them, what is getting in their way, and what they can do to maximise their potential.
