Has your baby left you? Your job got you down? Got a hankerin’ for some moody tunes deep in your soul? Sandgate’s Cardigan Bar has your back, when its popular event Sandgate Blues returns this month.
Blues mavens, State of Appalachia and Corn Liquor, are set to provide the soulful sounds on the day, and Cardigan Bar owner, Brett Johnson, said audiences could expect their fair fill of stompin’ soul tunes.
“It’s a fun day out featuring live music from two great bands,” Brett said.
“Corn Liquor are Australia’s hillbilly cowboys that play tribute to the likes of Johnny Cash. They do a little guitar pickin’ and bass slappin’ to get your feet tappin’.
“We will also have for the first time, Flamin Grillas, low and slow, American-style BBQ to treat us with mouthwatering, smoked brisket and other goodies.
“And the awesome guys from Glass House Brewing on the Sunshine Coast are coming along to showcase a range of their finest brews, and to talk all things brewing. They may even have a few giveaways.”
State of Appalachia vocalist and guitarist, Adam Christy, said audiences could expect to hear a stack of covers from some of the best blues names in the business.
“State of Appalachia was formed out of a love of American bluegrass, country/rock, folk and blues,” Adam said.
“This music has its roots largely originating from the region of Appalachia in the US, hence the band’s name.
“We’ll be covering songs by The Steeldrivers, Tyler Childers, Colter Wall, Chris Stapleton and John Prine, and more.”
Brett said the event would be the perfect Saturday afternoon escape for Sandgate’s blues fans.
“It’s a great Saturday session for the locals and a short train ride for our neighbours,” he said.
“Expect awesome musicians, mouth-watering smoked barbecue and tasty beverages from a fine brewery who will be on site to talk all things beer.”
Sandgate Blues is on Saturday, 21 September from 3pm. See Cardigan Bar’s Facebook page for more information.
