Shorncliffe Pier Precinct Restoration

It has come to the attention of this group that the Brisbane City Council has agreed with our requests for a restoration of the Groyne area opposite the Shorncliffe Pier.

The restoration will involve resurfacing of the Groyne and the installation of safety fences to make access to the whole area safer. We have been told that the work should take no longer than two weeks and should be completed hopefully by the end of August 2012.

This restoration will allow access to the only permanent Deep Water fishing area on the Sandgate /Shorncliffe foreshore and will allow events such as wedding photos and walking activities to recommence.

We feel that this will help to revitalize the Sandgate CBD area and local businesses and may help to restart the tourist industry that has suffered dramatically since the closure of the Shorncliffe Pier in March 2012.

We also hope that this work will NOT delay the full restoration of the Pier as that is still the main priority for the Area.

We thank the Brisbane City Council for doing the upgrade in the area and we also respectfully ask that they continue with their efforts in Restoration of the Pier so that it can be completed as soon as possible and well before the four (4) years mentioned in past communications with this group and community.
