Brisbane to Gladstone Multihull Yacht Race Returns
The Bluewater Festival organising committee is thrilled that start of The Brisbane to Gladstone Multihull Yacht Race is returning to Shorncliffe after many years absence.
“We have really missed the multihulls since they moved their start to Manly several years ago” said festival spokesperson, Linda Holman. “They always provided an exciting spectacle with their speed and colourful sails, especially when the spinnakers unfurl in a decent breeze.”
“With the monohulls needing to start in deeper water due to their ever increasing size and draught, the view of the start of the Brisbane to Gladstone race from Shorncliffe has been a little indistinct in recent years”, Ms Holman said. “However, we have received official word from the race organisers that the multihulls will be starting just 300 metres off the Shorncliffe Pier and that promises to be a most impressive sight, especially if the rumours that one of the fastest multihulls in the world, a 60ft trimaran from Sydney, is coming up for the race are true.”
Shorncliffe will definitely be the best place to be this Good Friday, with the QantasLink Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race commencing at 11:00am, the Brisbane to Gladstone Multihull Yacht Race at 11:10am then the inaugural 18ft Skiffs Regatta racing just off the shore from 1:00pm. On top of all that, there’ll be great music, entertainment, rides, markets, children’s activities and more at the 15th annual Bluewater Festival in Lower Moora Park from 9am – 4pm.
